significant pieces of ARCHITECTURE

Renzo Piano- Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre, Noumea

The Tjibaou Cultural Centre is dedicated to Jean-Marie Tjiaou. It is devoted to the cultural origins and the search for identity to the native Kanak people of New Caledonia. I decided to choose this piece of architectue as it relates to my habitat/dwelling in some respects as it relates with its surrounding enivronment but also because of its presence within in environment.

The way in which lights plays with this piece of architecture onto the nearby water is something in which Piano had hoped for. It is clearly evident through the reflections onto the water, that is as much part of the building as itself as it adds another dimension to the Tjibaou Cultural Centre.

From the sketch below, it is evident that even with technology surrounding us, the meduim of using pen on paper is still quite strong. The ability to quickly transfer ideas from the brain onto paper will always be quicker than using a computer

Jose Antonio Coderch-
La Barceloneta, Barcelona, 1951

Set in the narrow, busy and noisy streets of Barcelona, Coderch produced these apartments. The different shaped rooms which seem to have been tapered or shaved to create these oblique views is what interests me into this piece of architecture.

Development in 1951, we can see the extend of technology Coderch was exposed to with the hand-drawn plans and sections. With the shape of the building being the way it is and the technology Coderch was exposed to, it shows Coderch's ability to create amazing pieces of architecture without the aid of technology. To imagine what Coderch could achieve in the 20th century with the aid of technology is mind-blowing.

habitat #1 further developed

NOTE: developing my habitat further using crysis instead of sketchup, i was unable to gather a plan and a couple sections of my environment but by using crysis i was able to play my map and was aware of how my creature would interact with its environment.
